Today I learned that after nearly 90 years, the Elk Hotel in NYC has closed. The Elk Hotel was the last remaining hourly hotel in Times Square. In November of 2010 I was lucky enough to do a photo shoot in this hotel with Katelan Foisy as part of her Lie & Indite series. It was a surreal experience. The room was heavy with memories and ghosts of a past that now been almost completely erased in Times Square. The headboard was covered in scrawled names and messages. A credit card was under the nightstand. A torn-up letter was in the garbage. It’s a day I’ll never forget. After our two hour allotment had ended, the hotelier knocked on the door. We packed up our things and I asked if I could take a picture of him.

I took this photo almost a year ago and had forgotten about it. Someone just bought the polaroid from this shoot and I am so grateful to have come upon this photo again. It was taken on a cold day when we decided to pretend it was spring.

This is where I was this morning.

I’ve never done this and I may never do it again. I’ve decided that I’d like to offer a few select polaroids for sale (the ones you see above). These are a collection of polaroids that I’ve held onto because I think they are my best. It should go without saying that these are originals and I will of course sign them. So, here’s the deal:
